Terms of Service

Take the City is an entertainment product: a game played on a map of the world. Clans pool money into a war chest and the clan with the highest confirmed total on a city holds it until someone outbids them or their total decays.

Payments buy a game action, nothing else. They are not deposits, investments, savings, tokens, securities, or a stake in any company. A held city is a row in our database — it grants no right, title, licence or claim to any real place, property, trademark, or organisation, and no resale or cash-out value.

There is no prize, jackpot, or payout. Outcomes follow published rules — the highest confirmed total holds a city — not chance, and no money is ever paid out to players.

You must be at least 16 years old, and old enough under your local law to enter this agreement and pay online. One person, one account.

You are responsible for your credentials and for everything done through your account. Tell us at support@takethecity.lol if you think someone else has access.

Your display name, your clan, your contributions and the cities your clan holds are public. Your email address is not shown to other players.

Display names, clan names, manifestos, insignia, spotlight labels and links are submitted by users. You are solely responsible for what you submit, including whether you have the right to use a name, a logo, or a trademark, and for any consequence of publishing it.

We do not pre-screen content beyond automated filters, and we are under no obligation to monitor. Publishing something here does not make it ours or make it endorsed by us.

By submitting content you confirm that you may lawfully do so, and you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute it on the site for as long as you keep it there.

The following are prohibited anywhere a user can enter text or an image:

• Names, symbols or praise of terrorist, extremist or hate movements — including Nazi and neo-Nazi references and their coded numeric forms
• Slurs and hate speech targeting people by race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability
• Harassment, threats, or content targeting a private individual
• Sexual content, and anything sexualising minors
• Impersonation of a person, brand, organisation, or of Take the City staff, and unauthorised use of trademarks
• Links to malware, phishing, scams, or illegal material
• Attempts to bypass the filters — spacing, punctuation, lookalike characters, or leetspeak forms of any of the above

Automated filters reject the clearest cases at submission. Everything else is handled on report.

Any user can report a clan, a name, a spotlight or a link with the Report control next to it, or by writing to support@takethecity.lol.

Reports are reviewed by us. Where we judge that content breaks section 4, or the law, or simply puts the platform at risk, we may — without prior notice and at our sole discretion — edit or remove the content, rename or hide a clan, suspend or delete an account, or refuse service. Repeated reports can hide a clan automatically pending that review.

Removal does not come with a refund. Money already spent on a game action is spent, whether or not the content that went with it survives moderation. Section 1 applies: you paid for the action, not for the name.

If you think a decision was wrong, write to support@takethecity.lol within 30 days and we will look again.

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, LLC as merchant of record. Your contract of sale for each payment is with them, and their terms and privacy notice apply alongside these terms. We never see or store your card details.

Prices are in US dollars and shown before you pay. Taxes are calculated and collected by the merchant of record where applicable. A payment is applied to the game once we receive a confirmed order notification, normally within seconds.

Game actions are digital content delivered immediately. By paying you ask for that immediate delivery and, where your consumer law grants a withdrawal period for digital content, you agree it ends once delivery begins. See the refund policy for the cases where we do refund.

Reversing a delivered payment by chargeback rather than contacting us first may result in suspension of the account and removal of what the payment bought.

Rules and numbers — decay rates, minimum bids, founding fees, spotlight pricing, which cities are locked or excluded — may change as the game is balanced. Sacred, disputed and sensitive locations are excluded from play at our discretion, and that exclusion is not a political statement.

We may suspend or discontinue the service. If we discontinue it entirely, unspent value is not refundable, because there is none: every payment is consumed by the action it performed at the moment it was made.

Do not attack, probe or overload the service, do not automate play, do not use another person's payment method, and do not exploit a bug instead of reporting it to support@takethecity.lol. We may reverse game state obtained this way and terminate the accounts involved.

The service is provided “as is”. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that the map, the rankings or the timing of decay will always be accurate.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability to you for any claim connected with the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, or lost game state. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud, and nothing here affects consumer rights you have by law.

You may stop using the service at any time and ask us to delete your account at support@takethecity.lol. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms. Sections 1, 3, 5, 9 and 11 survive termination.

These terms are governed by the law of the Republic of Türkiye, with the courts of Istanbul competent.

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the new version. Material changes will be announced on the site.
